Nu Rave

An Introduction to Nu Rave Bands

The bands that made up of the genre of Nu Rave music are closely related to those of electronic rock and house music. Their music is defined by heavy base lines and synthesized sounds. It is generally up-tempo and designed for dance clubs. The genre of Nu Rave is largely accredited to have been started by the band known as The Klaxtons. This band coined the term Nu Rave in an interview done by a British music magazine NME, an acronym for New Musical Express. The Klaxtons claimed to have “started” the genre as the joke on the press. However, whether they were joking or not, Nu Rave has undoubtedly become a new subculture.

Since The Klaxtons coined the term, several bands have come out under the Nu Rave genre. Some of these bands include Celldweller, Out From Animals, and Silent Descent. There are, however, many bands that are claiming to follow the Nu Rave sound. Many of these bands are based in England and there are more beginning to rise around the world as this subculture becomes more popular among teenagers and preteens.

Synthesized sounds play an important role in the Nu Rave style, which inherits much of it’s sound from techno and dance-punk. This type of music is wildly popular in clubs and rave parties. Synthesized music was first introduced in the 1980s and has since grown into several different subgenres such as Electronica, Techno, House Music, and Breakbeat. The music is sometimes accompanied by a distorted guitar, synthesizers, turntables and the occasional vocals.

Nu Rave is a recent genre that has only been around since 2006. In just a few short years, it has exploded onto the world scene and as become a genre of its own as teenagers and preteens readily embrace the Nu Rave lifestyle.
